Description
Priming oil for use on exterior wood. Valtti Base is absorbed into the wood retarding the adverse effects of moisture and microbial growth.
Examples of use
Valtti Base is an ideal pre-treatment for bare exterior wood prior to the application of Valtti Wood Finishes and Tikkurila Paints. Valtti Base is not suitable for interior treatment of greenhouses. Do not use Valtti Base for any other purposes than those indicated in the instructions for use.

Colour range
Colourless and wood colour (337F). Valtti Base will not protect wood from the adverse effects of sunlight and therefore should be overcoated as soon as is possible.
Specifications
Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, all loose material and surface contamination. Use recommended Tikkurila products for mould removal and cleaning.
Application
Methods: brushing or dipping.
Thinning: Valtti Base normally requires no thinning.
Painting conditions
All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20%, the temperature of the air at least +5 deg. C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.
Painting
Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply Valtti Base liberally overall, paying particular attention to end-grains, joints, cracks, etc. On very absorbent wood two coats of Valtti Base may be necessary. Protect plants from splashes of Valtti Base.
Coverage
Smooth wood: 8-10 m2/litre per coat. Sawn wood: 4-5 m2/litre per coat. Actual spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity and moisture content of the substrate.
Drying times
At 23 deg. C and 50% relative humidity of the air: normally touch-dry in 1/2 hour and recoatable after 24 hours.
Cleaning of tools
Clean immediately after use with white spirit.
Prevent environmental damage
Empty cans should be recycled or disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Liquid waste should be destroyed according to the local regulations.
Note! Cleaning cloths or sanding dust containing the product can create fire by auto-ignition and should therefore be stored in water before disposal, or dried outdoors or incinerated immediately.

Environmental protection and waste disposal
This product must not be poured down drains, into waterways or onto the soil. Any product remaining unused and dried paint waste must be disposed of as hazardous waste. Dry, empty sales packaging can be taken to a metal bank for recycling or to a public landfill site. Risk of self-ignition! Cleaning cloths or sanding dust containing the product can create fire by self-ignition and should therefore be stored in water before disposal, or dried outdoors or incinerated immediately.
