Colour range

Available in white, the complete Tikkurila Professional and Façade Colour Ranges, plus most of the British Standard, RAL and NCS, NCS-S, Liquid Imagination and Fauvism 55 Colour Ranges.
Note: Colour shades will not fully develop until the paint is completely dry.

Preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, rust, all loose material and surface contamination. Use recommended Tikkurila products for mould removal and cleaning. Treat knots and resinous areas with Tikkurila Knotting Lacquer. Use recommended Tikkurila fillers for filling cracks, nail holes, blemishes, etc. Ensure that existing glossy, gloss painted and filled surfaces are thoroughly flatted down. Ensure that all surfaces are thoroughly prepared prior to priming and painting. Make sure that timber cladding, weatherboarding and timber glazing beads, etc., are adequately fastened with non-corrosive fixings.
Note: Discoloration of paint especially noticeable with light colours may occur over knots and resinous areas present in the wood. Particular attention with regards to preparation should be given to wood such as Oak, Teak, Cedar, Douglas Fir, Mahogany and Idigbo, etc., which contain oil and water-soluble tannin which may impair the drying, hardening or adhesion of surface coatings and discolour the finished surface.

Priming

Prime new bare wood overall and spot prime all bare areas on previously painted wood with Pito waterborne primer. Use Oljypohja Oil based Primer Primer on wood that contains substances, which may ‘bleed through’, and cause staining to the finished surface. Prime all bare metal and potential rust spots with Rostex Super Metal Primer.
Note: A priming coat of Valtti Base should be applied to all exterior wood which has not been pre-treated or vacuum impregnated with an approved wood preservative. Apply liberally on end grain.

Application

Methods: brush or spray. Polyester and nylon paint brushes are best suited for the application of Ultra.
For airless spray: use a 0.018” - 0.023” 0.460 – 0.580mm spray tip.
Thinning: if necessary by up to 10% of volume with water.

Painting conditions

All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the moisture content of the wood below 20%, the temperature of the air at least +5OC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.

Painting

Stir the paint thoroughly and apply two coats of Ultra overall.

Coverage

Smooth wood: 8-10m2/litre per coat. Sawn wood: 4-8m2/litre per coat. Wet-film thickness approximately 100-250μm per coat, dry-film approximately 40-100μm per coat. Actual spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity and moisture content of the substrate.

Drying times

At 23degreeC and 50% relative humidity of the air: normally touch-dry in one hour and recoatable after 2 hours. Low temperature and high humidity will make drying times longer. Handle the surface with care, ultimate durability and hardness is reached in approx. 4 weeks under normal circumstances.

Cleaning of tools

Clean with water immediately after use.

Maintenance

Depending upon exposure and elevation, one coat of Ultra is normally sufficient after 8-10 years.

Prevent Environmental Damage

Empty cans should be recycled or disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Liquid waste should be destroyed according to the local regulations.284
