Pito exterior wood primer

Description

Acrylate primer for exterior timber surfaces.

Examples of use

Wooden exterior walls, weatherboards, railings, fences, etc. Suitable for new, factory primed or previously painted wood surfaces before finishing with Tikkurila Pika-Teho or Ultra acrylate paints.

White AP base paint can be used as such or tinted close to the shade of the topcoat. Colour accuracy is not perfect. Always tint C base paint before use.

Preparation - Untreated Surfaces

Unpainted or industrially coated surfaces must be clean and dry. Remove all dirt, mould and loose material. Treat bare wood surfaces with Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase priming oil at an early construction stage. Protect nail heads with Rostex Super Metal Primer. Remove loose resin from knots and seal them with Tikkurila Knotting Lacquer.

Preparation - Previously Painted Surfaces

Remove all dirt mould and loose or flaking material. Wash down moulded surfaces with Homeenpoisto Mould Removal solution according to instructions. Treat bare wood surfaces with Valtti Base or Valtti Akvabase priming oil. Spot prime as necessary with Pito waterborne Exterior Wood Primer thinned up to 5 %.

Application

Methods: Apply with a wide paint brush or with high-pressure spraygun and brush. High-pressure spray:
- nozzle 0.018 - 0.023 i.e. 0.460 - 0.580 mm
- thinning 0 – 10 vol-%

Painting Conditions

The surface to be painted must be dry i.e the moisture content of the wood shall not exceed 20 %. During painting and drying, the temperature of the air must be at least +5 ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %.

Painting

Stir the paint carefully before use and thin max 10 %, if necessary. Use wide paint brush or high-pressure spray gun and brush. Treat end-grain carefully. Recoatable after 2 – 4 hours. Finish 1-2 times with Tikkurila Pika-Teho or Ultra as soon as possible, but within 10 months after priming.

Coverage

4 - 6 m2/l for sawn wood surfaces 7 - 9 m2/l for planed wood surfaces

Drying Times

At 23 ˚C and 50% relative humidity of the air : Touch dry after 1 hour, recoatable after 2-4 hours under normal conditions. Low temperature and high relative humidity of air will extend drying time.
