Specifications
Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, all loose material and surface contamination. Wet new wooden surfaces with clean water so as to expose loose wood fibres, allow to dry and sand down. Completely remove existing coatings that are in poor condition. Use suitable Tikkurila products such as cleaning agents and suitable Tikkurila wood fillers for filling cracks, nail holes, blemishes, etc. Ensure that all glossy and filled surfaces are thoroughly flatted down.
Application
Methods: brush, sponge or spray. Polyester or nylon paint brushes are best suited for the application of Kiva Interior Lacquer. Thinning: if necessary by up to 5% with water.
Painting conditions
All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air and substrate at least +10 deg. C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.
Painting
Stir thoroughly before and during use. Apply two to three coats of Kiva Interior Lacquer according to the condition of the surface and required depth of colour. Always work in the direction of the grain and avoid overlapping. The final colour will depend upon the timber species i.e. original colour and hardness. The chosen gloss level will normally be achieved after the application of two coats.
Coverage
8-14 m2/litre per coat. Actual spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity, moisture content of the substrate and method of application.
Drying times
At 23 deg. C and 50% relative humidity of the air: normally touch-dry in ½ hour and recoatable after 2-3 hours. The lacquered surface will reach final hardness after approximately one week. Hard stress and the placing of objects on the surface should be avoided during this time.
Cleaning tools
Clean with water immediately after use.
Prevent environmental damage
