Specifications
Preparation
Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from grease, dirt, oil, wax, rust, all loose material and surface contamination. Completely remove existing lacquer or varnish coatings that are in poor condition. Fill cracks, nail holes, etc. with a good quality wood filler or by using a filler made by mixing Kiva Floor Priming Lacquer or Kiva Floor Lacquer with the wooden sanding dust. Ensure that all filled and glossy surfaces are thoroughly flatted down. Remove all sanding dust.
Priming
Prime new bare wood overall and if necessary spot prime all bare areas on previously lacquered or varnished wood with Kiva Floor Priming Lacquer as in accordance with priming lacquer data sheet.
Application
Methods: brush, mohair roller or spreader. Polyester or nylon paint brushes are best suited for the application of the Floor Lacquer.
Thinning: if necessary by up to 5% with water.
Painting conditions
All surfaces to be painted must be dry, the temperature of the air at least 15C, and the relative humidity of the air below 80%.
Painting
Stir lightly before use. Do not whip air into the lacquer. Apply two or three coats of Kiva Floor Lacquer working in the direction of the wood grain, allowing 1-3 hours between coats. Plan application route prior to applying Kiva Floor Lacquer.
Coverage
10-15 m2/litre per coat. Spreading rates will depend upon many factors including texture, porosity, moisture content of the substrate and method of application.
Drying Time
At 23C and 50% relative humidity of the air: normally touch-dry in one hour and recoatable after 3 hours. Avoid hard stress (abrasion, etc.) to the surface during the first two weeks after application. Do not lay coverings or carpets onto the surface during the first week after application as through-drying may be impaired.
