Specifications
Unpainted surfaces: Clean new surfaces carefully of dirt and dust, to ensure the best possible adhesion.
Wood surfaces: Treat knots with Oksalakka knotting lacquer. Prime with Helmi Primer/Feelings Furniture Primer or Otex primer. New clean wooden surfaces in good condition can also be treated directly with Taika Pearl Paint.

Wall surfaces: If necessary, smooth the surface with a suitable filler and sand the dry surface. Remove sanding dust. Apply two coats of Tikkurila acrylate wall paint, such as Harmony/Feelings Interior Paint.
Previously painted surfaces: Wash down previously painted surfaces with Maalipesu cleaning agent and rinse carefully with water. Allow to dry.
Wood surfaces: Remove loose paint or lacquer with a scraper. Sand hard and glossy painted or lacquered surfaces matt. Remove sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with Presto Rapid Filler and sand filled places. Prime unpainted surfaces. Please note: use Otex primer on surfaces covered with nitrocellulose lacquer.
Wall surfaces: Sand hard or glossy surfaces matt. Remove sanding dust. Fill holes and cracks with Spakkeli General Filler and sand the dry surfaces. Remove sanding dust. Prime unpainted surfaces.
Application
Methods: brush, effect roller, spray. For application use a short-pile roller. Use brush or effect roller to create different surface patterns. Conventional spray: fluid nozzle 1.8mm, thinning up to 40 % with water. Thinner: if necessary thin with water.
Painting conditions
The surface to be treated must be dry, the temperature of the air at least +10ºC, and the relative humidity of the air below 80 %. A fairly low temperature (approx. +15º C) and a fairly high humidity (50-70 % RH) prevents the paint from drying too quickly and makes work easier.
Painting
Stir the paint carefully all the way to the bottom before use.
Furniture, etc.: Apply two coats of Taika Pearl Paint by brushing, rolling or spraying. On large surfaces, it is worth first applying with a roller and then smoothing it with a brush. Use a high-quality synthetic-fibre brush. The pearlescent effect is beautifully accentuated in the brush strokes.
Wall surfaces/effect painting: On wall surfaces, Taika Pearl Paint works best as a limited effect surface, whereby part of the wall paint used as a 'primer' is left visible. From the Taika colour card, you will find colours for wall paints that match Taika Pearl Paint. Apply Taika Pearl Paint with a roller in areas of about 1m² at a time, and, if desired, immediately create effects using different effect rollers, brushes or sponges.
A trial painting on thick cardboard is recommended.
We recommend that you protect the skirtings carefully with masking tape. Remove the masking tape immediately after painting. If you use a brush, work with small areas and finish immediately with a roller. In that way, border areas are not so easily visible. Apply two coats of Taika Pearl Paint, but in effect painting, only one.
Painting large, smooth, even surfaces with Taika Pearl Paint requires skill and experience, but such methods as criss-cross brushing or rolling also work for beginners, even on larger wall surfaces.
Taika Pearl Paint is also suitable for patterning with stencils and for line painting. Further ideas and more detailed instructions can be found in the Tikkurila Painting Guide.
Maintenance painting
Follow the instructions of previously painted surfaces. If desired the effect surfaces can be recoated with Helmi Furniture Paint (furniture) or with water-borne wall paints (wall surfaces)
Coverage
6 – 8 m2/l
Drying Times
At 23OC, relative humidity of the air 50 %: touch-dry after one hour. Recoatable after 6-8 hours.
Instructions
Not until 1 month after painting: Clean the surfaces with neutral (pH 6-8) dishwashing liquid and with soft brush, sponge or cloth. Clean the very dirty surfaces with lightly alkaline (pH 8-10) washing fluid with cloth, mop or sponge. Rinse the surface carefully.
After painting the surfaces must be handled carefully for a few weeks time, because the paint will achieve its final hardness and durability in normal conditions after 1 month. If the surface must be cleaned soon after painting, clean the surface lightly with soft brush, cloth or mop.
