Valtti chosen for Arnisdale Community Centre by Keppie Design

3 September 2009

This was a really interesting project for VALTTI, not because the structure or substrate was complex or the chosen colour difficult, but because the whole build had to offer solid performance on an extremely exposed site whilst delivering a minimum of 10 years protection to first maintenance.

Arnisdale Community Centre was a project managed by Keppie design and built by William Gray Construction for Arnisdale and Loch Hourn Community Association. The whole project was undertaken on a tight, part-lottery funded budget and a number of innovative new construction techniques were tested and implemented throughout the build phase in order to deliver a cost efficient solution.

All timber surfaces were given a light wash down with water to remove any contamination before two coats of VALTTI Finngard Opaque were applied. Because Keppie had specified a very high quality Larch cladding, there was no need to prime the structure prior to application of the top coats, reducing costs further.

This project was innovative in many ways and the outcome is a stunning building of traditional character which is highly valued by the local community. We at VALTTI were very happy to have been chosen to keep it looking that way!
